Rumor: Patapon 2 Hitting Retail Sans UMD With PSN Voucher Code
by Mike Bendel on April 13, 2009 @ 12:49 pm

Sony may be planning to take its digital distribution plans to the next level with the May 5 release of Patapon 2 here in the states. According to a reliable insider from technology site Arstechnica, the title will not ship on physical UMD. While those who purchase it at retail will still receive a nice ol’ game box, packed inside will be a PSN voucher code with which purchasers can redeem in exchange for a digital download.
The retail version of the title is said to be priced at $19.99, while the PSN counterpart will be priced slightly lower at $14.99.
If true, this would certainly fail in line with Sony’s heavily-rumored plans to announce a UMD-less PSP. Notions of which were first made public by industry vet and Shiny Entertainment founder Dave Perry last February.
