Activision announced today that its oft-delayed open-world action game Prototype will hit North American retailers on June 9. Inbound for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, the title will ship out in European territories four days earlier on June 5.

In Prototype, players assume the role of Alex Mercer, a genetically mutated man capable of shape-shifting. Set in a barren, post-apocalyptic New York, the plot revolves around discovering Mercer’s origins and bringing a stop to those responsible for creating the life-changing power.
