Japan: PS3 Hardware Leads In March

by Mike Bendel on April 6, 2009 @ 10:21 am

According to the latest batch of Enterbrain’s monthly sales figures, PS3 managed to outsell the Wii in March, marking the first time a Sony console has surpassed that of a Nintendo equivalent in 16 weeks.

The sudden increase in sales is of course attributed to the high-volume of exceptional software titles released last month. Yakuza 3 and Resident Evil 5 were labeled as a key drivers of the momentum, and rightly so, seeing as the former has already sold over a half a million copies.

Will the good fortune continue? April is looking rather barren in terms of surefire blockbuster-worthy titles, so all bets are off. But let’s look on the bright side — having one month to celebrate beats none at all.
