While those of us in North America and Europe are still waiting patiently to get our hands on the latest iteration of Nintendo’s portable hardware, the DSi, the system has already surpassed another sales milestone overseas.

According to Famitsu sales figures, the DSi has shifted 2,024,431 million units in Japan since its November 1 inception. This milestone comes mere days after a trio of new DSi colors hit the region: Pink, Lime Green, and Metallic Blue.

That’s almost a third of what the original DS sold. Impressive. Question is though, will it eclipse sales of the DS Lite, which is currently sitting pretty at 17,610,348 million units sold. Only time will tell.

Has the DS Lite production already stopped completely in all regions because of the release of the DSi?

Or will Nintendo keep making the DS Lite for a couple more months?

x3sphere says:

The Lite is still in production, yes. Even in Japan. The DSi costs more so Nintendo is sort of positioning it as a premium model. As such, there's no plans for it to replace the Lite as of yet.

jx233 says:

Thank you, because I prefer the Lite over the DSi, and just wanted to know so I still would have a chance to buy the Lite.
