Microsoft unleashes the ban hammer on modded 360s

by Mike Bendel on May 17, 2007 @ 4:44 pm

If you have modified your Xbox 360 via the well-known drive firmware hack, it’s best to stay clear from Xbox Live at this time. Microsoft made clear today that they have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to modified consoles connecting to Live, and therefore any Xbox 360 that is detected to have an altered drive firmware will be banned immediately.

Understandable, Microsoft wants to ensure the security and integrity of its Xbox Live service, but when you have numerous reports of legit users getting banned, that’s not a good thing, is it?

oh dear....worst move by microsoft i've seen in ages....reminds me of the WGA fiasco a year or so ago though....actually its pretty much the same thing....this would put me off getting a 360 now as well....not that i would be playing back-ups or modding it,just the risk of a unmodded console being banned.
