Star Ocean Remakes Announced for PSP

by Mike Bendel on May 10, 2007 @ 9:37 am

Japanese publisher Square-Enix announced the development of two future PSP gems today at their press conference in Japan. The games: Star Ocean: First Departure and Star Ocean: Second Evolution.

First Departure is a full remake of the original Super Famicom Star Ocean, which never was released in the US or Europe. Second Evolution, on the other hand, is a remake of the classic PSone game known as Star Ocean: The Second Story. Both games will feature fresh, new CG cut scenes, and beautifully redone graphics to bring classic Star Ocean into a new generation.

First off let me say.... wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Star Ocean was amazing for ps2 and I still got to get into the old one for my nintendo.

I REALLY hope that the battle system is the same as in the ps2 version. Too many of the rpg titles aren't interested enough in non turn-based battles. I seriously jope that this game sticks with what they were doing and just improves on the game with an new storyline. If they conform like lots of other games they wont do as well as I hope this rpg powerhouse should.

I don't know whether to swoon at the thought of remaking the first two games, or go to Square-Enix headquarters equipped with a baseball bat and muscles fueled with rage.

Go ahead with the SO1 remake, fine. BUT NOBODY TOUCHES MY SECOND STORY! You can't have it! It's MINE! It's only the best game I have ever played on PS1. EVER. It doesn't need to be updated. It is the pinnacle of perfection. If it's anything more than a port, Someone at Square-Enix is going to pay dearly. Sure, adding stuff to it can make it better, but it can also ruin other aspects of the game. I want to remember SO2 in its untainted, perfect beauty. No updated graphics, no new battle system gimmicks. Just good old SO2. Though I wouldn't mind a better dubbing job for the english version.

And as for those names? Good GOD. Somebody make Square-Enix STOP before they kill off another series! The name change for SO1 makes some kind of sense, but Star Ocean: The Second Story is a name that needs no explanation.
